With fresh nectarine and apple aromas alongside spicy soil notes, this feels buoyant despite its lush ripeness. “Kalkofen” Deidesheimer Riesling QbA Grosses Gewachs
This vineyard is located on the western brim of the town of Deidesheim and the name, “Kalkofen”, comes from the name of an old limestone-brick oven used in the middle ages. This indicates the high content of limestone in this part of the vineyards, which offers a lot of minerality to the resulting wines. This wine is produced 100% biodynamically and the yields are kept low. This dense and complex wine is pale yellow in color with a greenish tinge. It has hints of apricot, sweet smoke and currant on the nose with up-front exotic flavors of pineapple and passion-fruit. This wine displays a succulent texture and chalky acidity and is nicely balanced on the finish, offering a persistent, spicy aftertaste. ■ Grape Variety 100% Riesling |

“Jesuitengarten” Forst Riesling Auslese
The “Jesuitgarten” is one of the very best vineyards in the village of Forst. Situated on a slope above the village of Forst, it is east-southeast facing with a very high content of volcanic balsat in the soil of the vineyards. This gives a very fine, delicate, and ongoing minerality to the wines. The name “Jesuitengarten” comes from the fact that this piece of land belonged to the “Jesuiten” monks and was used by them to grow vines. In medieval times, the monks and priests were the most knowledgeable about winemaking and the best place to grow vines. This wine is pale yellow with sultry aromas of white nectarine, honeysuckle and clove and accents of mint and cinnamon. The palate is silky and rich, faintly oily, and beautifully filled with tropical fruits, mint, sage and mineral notes. Lush and balanced by a well-integrated structure, it finishes with a supple spiciness and superb length. It is a great reflection of the site. ■ Grape Variety 100% Riesling |
