Château d'Esclans

In 2006, the owner of Chateau Prieure-Lichine, the son of Alexis Lichine, Sacha Lichine, along with a financer group, bought Chateau d’Esclans, situated in the middle of Provence. 44 hectares of the 247 hectare grounds are vineyards growing Grenache, Rolle, Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault with some vines that are over 80 years old. In order to make the best Rose using this wonderful soil and abundant sunshine, he chose Patrick Leon who had been working as an enologist at Chateau Mouton Rothschild for over 20 years, to be his partner. The four varieties of Rose made from skilful assemblage overturn the existing image of Rose; they are supreme Provence Roses unlike any other in the world.

A selection of vines are harvested at optimum maturity. The vineyard has a southern exposure and the soils are chalky-clay. Barrels are not used in fermentation in order to extract fresh and fruity flavors. The wine is a blend of Grenache and Rolle. It is very light pink in color with an aromatic nose of herbaceous plants and flowers. It shows strawberries, lavender and minerals on the palate with a dry, clean finish.

 Grape Varieties
86% Grenache, 10% Rolle, 4% Shiraz

Grapes used are from selected vineyards. 27% of the vineyards are 80 year old Grenache vines. Most of the vineyards have a southern exposure with chalky-clay slopes. After harvesting in bunches, the grapes are sorted twice, de-stemmed and pressed. Maceration is done at 10-12℃ to extract aromas. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks. Batonnage is applied. Partly vinified in 500 liter barrels.
