Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair was set up in 2002 by young winemaker Thibault Liger-Belair, who after studying vinification at university, worked as director of an internet based wine distribution company before setting up this domaine with vineyards inherited from his parents. At the heart of the domaine is a very prominent vineyard in Nuits Saint-Georges “Les Saint Georges” the most famous vineyard of the appellation. Thibault’s large plot of this vineyard has vines that are over 60 years old. Thibault has implemented organic cultivation in all the vineyards he works and in recent years, he has started introducing biodynamic cultivation. Thibault’s winemaking style is very thorough, from fermentation timing, to low yields, restricted use of sulfur dioxide, limited use of new barrels and other methods that allow the flavours of the fabulous terroir he works come through.

Bourgogne Chardonnay

A blend between some wine from 60 % Maconnais in the area of Lugny where you can find a lot of limestone in the soil who give some wines with more freshness and mineral structure and 40% Montagny in the cote Chalonnaise where you can find more clay and white marl who gives some roundness and density.

Aged in stainless tank during 14 month before the bottling.

This wine is very fresh and balanced, the first impression we have when we smell in the first glass is the citrus then something little bit more precise with the grapefruit and lemongrass. The nose gives an impression of real freshness and acidity, but when tasted, the impression of elegance and roundness are more apparent on the palate.

The old vines are planted in calcareous, deep brown stony soil, giving the wine its structure and rich characteristics. This wine has a very beautiful maturity and smoothness. Its firm finish is a true characteristic of the Saint-Georges. The potential of this wine is superb and at the level of the great wines of the Cote de Nuits. Clos de Vougeot
Clos de Vougeot

This 0.75 hectare vineyard was planted in 1948. It is situated in the southern part of the appellation, with the wall of the vineyard separating Clos-Vougeot from Les Echezeaux. The originality of this vineyard is down to its 200 meter rows of three different soil types: one type being stony with limestone-clay, the second part made of gravel and a strong proportion of clay and the third part being finer soil with clay and silt. The diversity of soils gives a rich and dense wine, much nearer to the roundness and smoothness of Vosne-Romanee. This wine has mineral characteristics and beautiful tannins without being too aggressive.

 Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir

Richebourg
Richebourg

This 0.55 hectare vineyard plot, planted in 1936, is the oldest parcel of vines in this famous appellation. The plot is considered to be one of the best in the Richebourg vineyard located in the south of the appellation, 50 meters north of the famous Romanee vineyard. The potential of this wine is superb and after airing for a little while in a carafe, it exudes great expressiveness. It is very dark in color with a big, beautiful nose. It is rich but well structured with dark fruit on the palate. This graceful wine will benefit from long aging.

Moulin-a-Vent Les Vieilles Vignes

Grapes are souced from 5 parcels located on the middle part of Moulin a Vent hill. 60〜80 years old vines. Shallow soil depth 30-50 cm, pink granite and sandy soils, which gives density and minerality to the wine, also a long finish.
This wine requires 5 to 10 years in aging to reach its potential, depending on the vintage.

Moulin-a-Vent La Roche

The most beautiful parcel of my domaine located on top of the hill (0.68ha). Pink granite on the surface and mixture of sand and quartz underneath.
Minerality says all about this wine. 7-15 years to reach its full potential.
