Montrachet The strong calcific soil of these parcels provide an underlay of soil for the vineyard that includes silicon dioxide, lime and iron oxide. Bought in 1872, the vineyard is 250-270 meters above sea level and extends over 10% of the slope with a south, south-easterly aspect. The conditions are such that the grapes do not suffer from damage, even in very dry years or very humid years. Grapes are handpicked and fermented in 100% new barrels, then aged in oak for 18 months. This wine has rich, luxuriant aromas of honeysuckle and ample wood spice followed by forward yet elegant flavors that are impressively concentrated. It is a nicely complex, powerful, and elegant wine: lovely and round, with a silky but intense palate impression, this is truly a great wine and one of the greatest white wines in the world. ■ Grape variety 100% Chardonnay |
