GIANNI BRUNELLI

The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto winery is divided into two distinct areas situated on different hillsides of Montalcino; Le Chiuse di Sotto and Podernovone vineyards. The very different micro climates of these two areas enable the production of wines with different characteristics, allowing for a considerable variety of final blends. The Brunelli family enjoyed an excellent reputation in Tuscany, although it was not always for their wines. Gianni’s father had once been a winemaker, but had moved into the restaurant business, having sold the family estate. Their restaurant, Osteria Le Logge, in Siena was very successful. Nevertheless Gianni purchased back the family estate in 1988, with further expansion in 1996. Gianni continues in the restaurant as a full time chef, also making the wine, with the help of oenologist Paolo Vagaggini. Although the winemaking approach is traditional, using large Slavonian oak botti, the wines are rich, ripe, fruity, approachable and quite modern.

Rosso di Montalcino
Rosso di Montalcino

Rosso di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese grown in the same delineated region as Brunello di Montalcino. This wine is aged for 10 months in oak before bottling. It has tantalizing aromas of strawberry and saddle leather with a hint of truffle and dense and mouthwatering wild cherry flavors. The long finish closes on a mineral note.

 Grape Varieties
100% Sangiovese

Amor Costante
Amor Costante

Amor Costante or “constant love” in English is produced in limited to small amounts. Aged in French barriques for 13 months, it is a powerful wine with a clear, deep, plum-red color. It is complete and persistent on the palate and well structured with great tannins. It is super-ripe with black cherry fruit flavors that verge on prune without actually tipping over the edge. Aging in oak barriques has given this wine nuances of vanilla, smoke and toast and supports the fruit without overwhelming it, while helping to shape the lush, velvety texture.

 Grape Varieties
80% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

This is a very classic Brunello. Aged for 30 months in oak, it has a lovely deep plum-red color with garnet-red reflexes. It has aromas of plum, dark cherry, flowers and citrus and fully ripened fruit characters without a hint of over-ripeness. The supple warmth of this seasoned fruit gives an easy entry into the mouth, yet behind the fruit lays significant tannic structure. The linear characteristics of this wine’s acidity lend themselves perfectly to carry the powerful tannins into balance. It is ripe and full-bodied and with a rich edge to a pleasing texture in the mouth and nice berry fruit flavors. Ripe tannins provide some grip and softly coat the mouth on the finish.

 Grape Varieties
100% Sangiovese
