Kooyong (MORNINGTON PENINSULA)

Kooyong was founded in 1995 and is located in the north part of Mornington Peninsula at Teurong. It is a 93 hectare property neighboring Devilbend Reserve, a home to many native water birds. The name Kooyong means “where the wild fowl gather”. The winery focuses on producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, which are both suited to the Peninsula’s cool maritime climate. Kooyong specialise in site specific wines from various terroirs of the estate. Each wine is expressive and different and each made in very limited quantities.

Clonale Chardonnay
Clonale Chardonnay

From 2006, estate grown fruit is now supplemented by specially selected purchased parcels of fruit and a mix of 10 cloned Chardonnay vines. Whole bunches are pressed with no de-stemming, then barrel fermented naturally without inoculation. Aged in French oak for 10 months (15% new). It is a vibrant straw color with a tinge of green. It is minerally on the nose with nuances of stone fruits and floral overtones. The Clonale Chardonnay has good texture and richness and finishes with good length and some bitter lemon flavors.
