PIANADEICIELI

Pianadeicieli is a newly founded Sicilian winery located only a few kilometers away from Sciacca, from the archaeological sites of Selinunte and the beaches of Porto Palo. The company takes its name from the landscape around it. A place of outstanding beauty, where it is possible to find vines, olive groves, avocados, fruit and citrus orchards and where the Sicilian land meets the sky. The Giambalvo family took over the farm a long time ago but it wasn’t until 2005 that they started making wine. The family-run estate is comprised of 80 hectares; 30 hectares is used for grape cultivation while the rest is distributed between olive groves and fruit orchards. The grapes used to be harvested and sent on to winemakers in the area but nowadays a selection of 15% is kept in house for Pianadeicieli’s own production. Because only 15% of the total harvest is kept by Pianadeicieli, it is possible for every step of the production to be followed meticulously, from the early morning grape handpicking to the transport in 12kgs baskets in order to minimize stress to the fruit. The finished product is wine that fully expresses the character and personality of this beautiful land as well through its rich aromas and flavors.

Grapes for the Pianadeicieli Mascaro are cultivated in the Menfi Bertolino-Scifitelli District. Fermentation is carried out in steel fermenters followed by a partial refining in Oak Barrels. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d’Avola are blended resulting in an elegant ruby red wine where vegetal aromas combine perfectly with notes of cocoa and ripened cassis and blackberry flavors. On the palate it shows spicy and balsamic notes with wild herbs, mint and pepper nuances. It is lively and powerful with lovely acidity.

Chardonnay Grecanico
Catarratto

Catarratto is the oldest indigenous Sicilian grape variety, typical of the western area. Straw yellow with golden and pink reflections, the nose is fresh and lively, displaying remarkable notes of fruits and white flowers. After being destemmed, grapes are softly pressed before being inoculated with selected pure yeasts. Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel fermentation vats under controlled temperature. This wine is lovely with fish, light cheeses and it's an excellent aperitif given its moderate alcoholic content (12.5%).

Pizzo Dei Corvi
Pizzo Dei Corvi

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel fermenters with only 25% being refined in new Allier oak barrels, bringing about a gentler wine. This excellent expression of Chardonnay spotlights the peculiarities of this variety. This wine has an intense straw yellow with light greenish reflections and a very expressive nose with fruity and flowery sensations competing remarkably with herbaceous scents. Pink grapefruit, mango and green apple, followed by elder flowers and white peach are perceived in a context of great softness where wood interference is discrete and detected in delicate overtones reminiscent of meringue. This lively and graceful wine combines roundness and freshness.

Syrah
Syrah

Grapes are gently pressed after de-stemming then moved to temperature controlled stainless-steel vinification tanks for fermentation and 10 days skin contact. After malolactic fermentation, 20% of the wine is moved to French oak while the rest is left in steel tanks for 8 months aging. Brilliant ruby red with purple overtones, this Syrah has an intense aroma of ripe fruits and aromas of chocolate, mint, black pepper and cloves emerge with time. It is round and pleasant on the palate; tannins are fresh and velvety. Oak is not overwhelming thus resulting in an elegant wine.
