VASSE FELIX

Vasse Felix was the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The vineyard took its unusual name from an early event in the district. Vasse was a French seaman who drowned last century when his longboat overturned near the site of Busselton while exploring the coastline on the ship “Geographe” under Captain Freycinet. Paradoxically, Felix is the Latin word for fortunate or luck. Thus the name refers to a favored place in Australia discovered by the French. The bird depicted on the label is a peregrine falcon. The native birds were an immense problem at harvest so trained falcons were used to deter them.


Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

This wine is a vibrant pale lemon in color with grass-green tinges. Ripe passion-fruit explodes from the glass, followed by an amazingly complex array of perfumes including lime, oregano, lemon thyme and a hint of wasabi peas. The intensity and richness of the fruit characters continues onto the palate. Zesty lime excites your tastebuds, with passion-fruit, sweet oregano and spiced Chai tea flavors of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla balancing the zingy acid. The crisp acid remains tight and clean to the end, combining beautifully with the subtle influence of toasted French oak.

Chardonnay
Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is fermented entirely in French Oak barriques (46% new oak) before 10 months of cellar maturation where the primary fruit characters become more complex by way of partial malo-lactic fermentation and extended contact with yeast lees. Wild fermentation (natural indigenous yeast) was used on 20% of the blend to induce mouth feel, richness and complex aromas. The finished product has Chardonnay-like aroma of flowers, citrus oil, white peach, tropical fruits and lemon sorbet gives a clean and precise impression. It is full bodied with pleasant fruit sweetness and is deep and fresh on the palate. Green apple flavor provides a beautiful backbone.

Cabernet Merlot
Cabernet Merlot

This wine is aged in both old and new French and American oak for 10 months. It is a deep ruby red with purple hues and lovely perfumed aromatics with expressive ripe fruit characters. The complex fragrances of black cherries, plums, vanilla, licorice, spearmint and dry herbs give freshness to this wine. The palate is rich and concentrated with fine subtle tannins that provide length and structure. This is a classic regional style showing the perfect integration of these two varieties.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon

Aged for 16 months in new and old French and American oak, this Cabernet Sauvignon is deep maroon in color with red brick hues. The nose shows classic aromas of cassis, herbal notes and perfumes reminiscent of roasted coffee, with some deep concentrated blackcurrant, fragrant dried oregano and subtle vanilla bean from maturation in toasted oak barriques. The wine is well balanced with silky blackcurrant fruit flavors upfront, carried along the palate by a fresh acid moving into dried herbal flavors and firm, slightly drying tannins. The soft texture of this medium-bodied wine is balanced by the fruit weight on the mid-palate and the long dry finish provided by the elegant tannins. This wine is best consumed within 6-8 years from bottling.

Heytesbury Chardonnay
Heytesbury Chardonnay

Vase Felix’s Icon white wine. Aged in 100% French oak, this Chardonnay is pale straw in color with green hues. It has complex aromas of cut flowers, lavender, grapefruit, and orange peal but fruitiness dominates the nose. These aromas are tightly integrated with almond, nut, and nougat characters and slight smoke and flint characteristics are also shown. The nose is very restrained and beautifully balanced by French oak. Apples in custard sauce, pear, peach, lemon tart flavors bring a fruity sweetness and freshness. The soft creamy edges from wild fermentation and lees stirring provide texture and oily mouth feel yet finishing clean and dry by oak influences and a long mineral finish.

Heytesbury Cabernet Sauvignon

Heytesbury Cabernet Sauvignon

A ergional classic made only from the very best fruit available. Aged in French and American oak, this wine is deep red with purple hues. It has complex aromas of blackberry, cassis, herb spices and cedar that will open up with age, with hints of orange chocolate, cassis, cedar, juniper berry and cloves. It has smooth tannins, sweet berry flavors and nuances of richly flavored oak on the middle palate, followed by dark chocolate flavors that lead to a long, dry finish. The elegant acidity and concentrated blackberry flavors bring depth to the wine and the rich flavor leaves a lasting finish.
